Boiled Spice Cake (Lynn Aho’s Grandmother)

2 c. sugar 2 c. cold water

3/4 c. lard or butter or margarine

2 c. raisins (optional) 1 t. salt

2 t. cinnamon 2 t. cloves

Oven 350. Put above in large pot and heat to boiling. Let it cook for a while. Cool to lukewarm.

Add: 3 c. flour and 2 t. baking soda

and optionally some nuts. Mix well, pour into greased 9”x13” pan. Bake until done.
