Caramel Brownies (Debbie Brase)

 

14 oz. bag of caramels   1/3 c. evaporated milk

18 1/2 oz. German chocolate cake mix

1/3 c. evaporated milk

3/4 c. melted margarine

6 oz. chocolate chips     1 c. chopped walnuts

 

Combine caramels and 1/3 c. of milk in double boiler. (or use microwave) Stir until caramels are melted.  Combine cake mix, milk, margarine,

and walnuts in a bowl.  Pour 1/2 of mixture into greased 13x9x2 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.  Sprinkle chocolate chips over mixtures.  Pour caramel mixture over chips and spread evenly.  Spread remaining cake mixture over caramel.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 more minutes.  Cool. Chill for 30 minutes.  Cut into bars.
